Clearview® RSV Testing Procedure

Step 1

Gently agitate the nasal swab or aspirate sample. For swab sample, roll the swab against the inside of the transport tube or specimen container as you remove it and discard the used swab.

Step 2

Fill the disposable pipette to the second notch (160 µL) with the nasal swab solution or nasal aspirate and add entire contents to extraction tube.

Step 3

Add 4 free-falling drops of R1 to the extraction tube while holding the bottle vertically over the tube and gently swirl the extraction tube to mix the sample and R1.

Step 4

Draw entire contents of the extraction tube up into a clean disposable pipette and squeeze the entire contents onto the sample well of the test device.

Step 5

The test results should be read between 15 and 25 minutes after applying the extracted sample to the test device. For full instructions, see package insert.

About RSV

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common cause of upper and lower respiratory tract infections and the major cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in infants and children. Infections and outbreaks due to RSV typically occur yearly in the fall, winter, and spring. While RSV can cause significant respiratory illness in older children and adults, the disease tends to be milder in these populations than in infants and young children.

Rapid identification and diagnosis of RSV has become more important due to the availability of effective antimicrobial therapy. Rapid identification can lead to reductions in hospital stays, antimicrobial use, and the cost of hospital care.1
