NEW FDA-Cleared Assay Claims for OIA® SHIGATOX®1
The CDC now recommends the best way to detect all STEC infections is to screen all stool samples for enteric pathogens for Shiga toxins.1 BioStar OIA SHIGATOX, the only direct, rapid diagnostic test for shiga toxins in stool, now has additional FDA-cleared claims for stool specimen testing:
- Stool samples placed in Cary-Blair transport media
- Broth culture using GN broth
- Colony Sweep Method from SMAC agar plates
It is important for physicians to know if a patient with acute diarrhea suffers from Shiga toxin-producing E. coli before treament with antibiotics or antidiarrheal agents, or risk facilitating a progression to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
Rapid detection is essential for appropriate care.
