An elevated serum or plasma homocysteine level is increasingly viewed as a strong and independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. And numerous studies since the early 1970s have associated elevated levels of Lp(a) with increased risk of coronary artery disease. The Lp(a) assay is cleared under 510(k) for monitoring levels of Lp(a) and for predictive coronary risk assessment.
