More than 200,000 cases of septicemia occur yearly in the U.S., with a 40-50% mortality rate. Rapid isolation of the organism and the determination of its susceptibility to antimicrobial agents are essential. The Wampole™ ISOSTAT^®/ ISOLATOR™ Microbial System is a blood culture method based on lysis centrifugation. This technology is used to concentrate microorganisms in the sample resulting in faster isolation and increased recovery of organisms from the blood. The system includes the ISOLATOR™ 10 mL tube and the ISOLATOR™ 1.5 mL tube, developed specifically for pediatric patients. The ISOSTAT^®/ISOLATOR™ can be used as a full-use system or in conjunction with automated blood culture screening methods. It offers faster recovery times and superior sensitivity compared to most automated systems.
